വീരപഴശ്ശിയുടെ സൈന്യത്തലവൻ ഇടച്ചേന കുങ്കൻ നായർ.
ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർക്കെതിരെ പഴശ്ശിരാജ നയിച്ച യുദ്ധങ്ങൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകിയത് ഇടച്ചേന കുങ്കൻ നായർ ആയിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം സഹോദരന്മാരായ കോമപ്പൻ നായർ, അമ്പു നായർ എന്നിവരും ഈ യുദ്ധങ്ങളിൽ മുഖ്യമായ പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു. വയനാട്ടിലെ ഈ നായർ പ്രമുഖന്റെ സ്വാധീനത്തിലാണ്‌ വയനാടൻ ജനത ഒന്നടങ്കം പഴശ്ശിക്കൊപ്പം യുദ്ധത്തിൽ അണിചേർന്നത്.ഇളങ്കുറ്റിൽ സ്വാരൂപം (ഇളങ്ങൂർ നാട്) എന്ന പേരിൽ പഴശി കോവിലകത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനി ഇളമുറയുടെ അധികാരപരിധിയിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ശാഖയുടെ കീഴിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന പ്രഭു കുടുംബങ്ങൾ ആണ് എടച്ചേന നായരും വെന്മം നമ്പ്യാരും. തിരുനെല്ലി അംശം , വെൻമം അംശം എന്നിവ അവരുടെ നേരിട്ടുള്ള നിയന്ത്രണത്തിൽ ആയിരുന്നു , എടച്ചേന കുങ്കൻ നായരുടെ കുറിച്ചുയരുടെ നേതാവ് ആയിരുന്നു തലക്കൽ ചന്തു . 1802 ലെ പനമരം കോട്ട ആക്രമണമാണ് എടച്ചേന കുങ്കൻ നായർ തന്റെ നായർ , കുറിച്ചയപ്പടയുമായി നടത്തിയത് ,തലക്കൽ ചന്തു വിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഉള്ള കുറിച്യ വില്ലാളികൾ പനമരം കോട്ട പിടിച്ചെടുത്തു
1802 ഒക്ടോബർ 11ന്‌ ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാരുടെ അധീനതയിലുള്ള പനമരം കോട്ട ആക്രമിച്ച് കീഴടക്കിയ കുങ്കൻ നായരും സംഘവും വയനാട്ടിലുടനീളം ബ്രീട്ടീഷുകാർക്കെതിരെ ആക്രമണം ശക്തമാക്കി. കുങ്കൻ നായരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള പഴശ്ശിപ്പട ഒളിയുദ്ധമുറയിലൂടെ നിരവധി ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പട്ടാളക്കാരെ വകവരുത്തുകയും കനത്ത നാശനഷ്ടങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാൽ പഴശ്ശിരാജാവിന്റെ മരണത്തോടെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിച്ച ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് വിരുദ്ധ യുദ്ധത്തിന്റെ അവസാനഘട്ടത്തിൽ, 1805-ൽ പന്നിച്ചാൽ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തുവെച്ച് ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർ ഈ ധീരയോദ്ധാവിനെ കൊലപ്പെടുത്തി.
ഈസ്റ്റിന്ത്യാ കമ്പനി രേഖകളിൽ കുങ്കനെ പരാമർശിച്ചിരുന്നത് "ഒരു തരത്തിലും വഴങ്ങാത്ത പടത്തലവൻ" എന്നാണ് .‼

Idachena Kunkan Nair led the wars led by Pazhashiraja against the British. Along with him, his brothers Komappan Nair and Ambu Nair also played a key role in these wars. Under the influence of this Nair chief of Wayanad, the people of Wayanad united with Pazhassi in the war. The Thirunelli faction and the Venmam faction were under their direct control, and Talakkal Chandu was the leader of the Edachena Kunkan Nair faction. The Panamaram fort was invaded in 1802 by Edachena Kunkan Nair with his Nair and Kurichayappada.
On October 11, 1802, Kunkan Nair and his gang invaded and captured the British-occupied Panamaram fort and intensified their attacks on the British across Wayanad. The Pazhassi army under the command of Kunkan Nair killed many English soldiers and inflicted heavy casualties on them. However, in the final stages of the anti-British war, which weakened with the death of King Pazhassi, the brave warrior was killed by the British in 1805 at Pannichal.
In the East India Company records, Kunkan was referred to as "a general who never yielded."
